Bro. Joel joined our ministry team as pastor in November 2000. He graduated from Auburn University in 1983 with a B. S. in Agricultural Business and Economics. He owned and operated a diversified farming operation in Marion Junction, Alabama for eleven years before he accepted the call to the ministry. He left the farm in 1995 to attend New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he received a Masters of Divinity in Biblical Languages. During seminary, Bro. Joel had the opportunity to pastor Ford’s Creek Baptist Church in Poplarville, MS where he stayed for almost five years. On November 26, 2000, Bro. Joel became the senior pastor of FBCC. In addition to his church responsibilities, he is active in the Birmingham Baptist Association as president of the Ministers Conference and he has served on several committees. He loves missions and has traveled to MS, NC, Indonesia, and Romania since he has been in Birmingham.
His wife, Kaye, is a licensed Marriage and Family therapist who has a private counseling practice in Trussville. He also has two sons, Nathan, a graduate of Auburn University and Caleb, a senior at Auburn University.
Rev. Mike Hamilton
Associate Pastor
through Music, Education and Administration Email
Bro. Mike joined our ministry team as Associate Pastor in December 2003. He has served as our Associate Pastor through Music, Education and Administration for the past eight years. Mike holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Church Music from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He also holds Master of Arts degree in Christian Education with concentrations in Foundations and Administration from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Prior to entering seminary, he was licensed and ordained as a minister of the gospel in 1997 by Faith Baptist Church (now known as River Road Baptist Church) in Hueytown, Alabama. His professional memberships include: American Choral Directors Association, National Association of Church Business Administration, Baptist Association of Christian Educators, Home School Legal Defense Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. In addition to his church responsibilities, Mike is active in the Birmingham Baptist Association and the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions by serving on several committees.
He also enjoys watching the University of Tennessee athletic programs, reading, computing, baseball; and, singing the national anthem at various sporting events in the Birmingham area. During his 20 year ministry, Mike has also served through various ministry positions at churches in Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and Texas. He and his wife have one daughter and twin boys.
Rev. Gene Kim
Minister to Children and Youth Email
Gene joined our ministry team as Minister to Children in Youth in July 2006. Gene grew up in Georgia and as a result is an avid Bulldogs fan. He graduated from the College of William and Mary with a degree in Religious Studies and then went on to get his Masters of Divinity at Beeson Divinity School located at Samford University. He and his wife, Melissa, enjoy watching football and hanging out with students. His heart’s desire is to see students passionate about the Word of God and in love with their Savior.
Sandy joined our ministry team as our Administrative Ministry Assistant in October 2011. Being born in Garfield, KY and educated in Louisville, Sandy and her husband, Bud, moved to Alabama to begin a ministry in music. Sandy has always been willing to serve behind the scenes in many capacities in various churches. Most recently she came to FBCC with 8 years of experience as a church secretary from a sister Baptist church in the Birmingham area. The Stengells have two adult children and seven grand children.
Carol has been on our ministry team since February 1994 as our Administrative Ministry Assistant. In March of 2011 she retired from that full-time postion to become our part-time financial ministry assistant.
